A Message from DMC Registered Nurses

Nearly 2,000 RNs at Detroit Medical Center are organizing their union with the Michigan Nurses Association. We work at DMC because we believe it’s the best hospital to serve the Detroit community. We want a voice in the decision making process that affects patient care and our practice.

Federal, state and city funds have been used to stabilize the DMC, ensuring its survival and the well-being of our community. It is unacceptable for DMC administration to use these public funds to hire a horde of attorneys to fight us in court and an anti-union consulting firm to help with their aggressive campaign against us. DMC nurses filed for an election October 1, 2007. However, after weeks of legal maneuvers by DMC, we withdrew our election petition.

DMC needs to focus on their mission — taking care of the patients that depend on them — and allow us to make our own decision about unionizing.

We urge CEO Mike Duggan to do the right thing – for all of us – and sign a Fair Election Agreement. This agreement would ensure that we can all focus on our mission -- the delivery of care to our community.
